St Michael’s offers a wide range of accommodation options suitable for you, no matter your age and abilities.
St Michael’s has been providing high-quality accommodation in Tasmania for the past 50 years.
Depending on your needs, you can choose from:
- Shared accommodation
- Group accommodation
- Independent living accommodation
- Short- and long-term accommodation
You’ll join a friendly and relaxed community where you can learn valuable skills to assist you to find your independence.
Your accommodation options include:
- Desmond Wood Complex – The location of our Youthbreak program and short-term accommodation
- Merton House – Where we offer assistance with daily life tasks in a group or shared living arrangement
- Supported Independent Living Units (SIL) – A place to live independently within a supported environment
- Supported Independent Living (Group Homes) – Located in Suburbs; Newstead, Norwood, South Launceston, Mowbray and Newnham
You can find all these at The Newstead Campus, 22 Hoblers Bridge Road, Newstead.
We also offer group home and shared home accommodation options within the broader community.
All of our accommodation has 24-hour support and is wheelchair accessible.

How can St Michaels assist?
We have short-term accommodation options at our Desmond Wood complex for both adults and young people. You might want to consider this type of accommodation for the following reasons:
- To try independent living to see if it works for you
- To provide respite for you and your family or carer
- For a comfortable, supported place to stay in an emergency
- As a way to join a community and make friends
Youthbreak
We also offer accommodation through our Youthbreak program, a place for young people 15–25 to live in short-term accommodation.
What is it?
SDA is a type of accommodation for people who require specialist solutions, including supports that assist you with extreme functional impairment or very high needs.

Our experienced team members deliver tailored, professional support integrated into our accommodation options. We aim to improve your quality of life.

What is it?
St Michaels currently has 44 units available for long-term rental to people with an intellectual disability.
The units are self-contained and are convenient to support services, which are also available overnight.
The units give you the opportunity to live independently and make your own decisions.
If you need support with domestic tasks, St Michaels can also provide this.
